Is it ever OK to steal?

Stealing has turned into a very common event nowadays. Some people believe it is highly unacceptable and for others it is not such a big deal if somebody steals a couple of things.

To begin with, looked up in the dictionary, the verb “to steal” means taking something from another person without permission. What I mean is, taking somebody’s property is not good or even right. Will you feel good if you buy a pair of jeans you have dreamed about for a month and somebody mugs you at the street? Furthermore, theft is considered very bad according to what is stolen. Robbery, for example, is kind of job for some people, they steal diamonds, money, property or even people’s identities. Some of the perpetrators are let off only with a court warning but others are sentenced to a prison term.

On the other hand, even though it is not something you should be proud of, some people come to the situation when they have no other choice but to steal. If you are taking care of 2 children and a wife and you have nothing to put on the table for dinner, you will probably consider the idea of robbery. In addition, there are people who steal notions in order to create something absolutely new. For instance, when creating the iPod, Apple has stolen some amazing ideas from Braun. However, they used it as an inspiration in order to transform the Braun’s ideas into something repurposed in their own style.

To sum up, I am of the opinion that stealing is a bad thing because in this way you get into someone’s privacy. However, there are cases when the theft is for a proper reason, especially if it results in something new and significant.

My mother, my role model

A role model is a person who plays a significant role in your life. A person who inspires you to give the best of yourself to the society. Many people want to have someone who motivates them to get up and go, and try, and make things happen . A person who will influence them in a right, positive way. This inspirer can be anyone- a parent, a movie star, your best friend or even your neighbor, who has a successful business in the sphere you want to develop, for example. And as some people are in search for their motivator in life, I am glad to say that I have known mine all my life.

The person I consider to be my role model is my mother. She is my example for everything. She has showed me that you have to fight with what life gives you every day. As Maya Angelou has said :“To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow.” My mother has showed me that she is not a typical housewife- cooking, cleaning, helping children with their homework, for instance, and at the same time to have free time for herself, while her husband is responsible for the main income. Along with all these obligations my inspirer goes every day to work, working equally as hard as my father. My role model has made me believe that every cloud has a silver lining. She has made me ambitious, making me want to develop myself, never give up and pursue my dreams.

My mother is my inexhaustible source of love. She is the one who will always be by my side, helping me shape the way I am in the present and what I will be in the future. She doesn’t ask for anything, but deserves everything. She is my motivator, my inspirer, my best example for everything.

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” – Gandhi

Have you ever asked yourself what is the man to the world? The man is a small part of it all, like the cell is to the organism and the atom to the molecule. In other words, we can say that the world is the value and the person is the unit.

First of all, to save the world means to save ourselves. Do you know that it is being estimated that the pollution of the atmosphere causes 24 000 premature deaths in the UK every year? That one to every 10 deaths from lung cancer is said to be caused by the air pollution? In addition, toxic substances from car exhaust fumes are responsible for at least 500,000 asthma crises and for more than 25,000 new cases of chronic bronchitis a year in these countries. Everything that we cause to the nature harms not only us, but every generation after us. In other words, if we learn how to keep the planet clean, we will make the future world a better place to live.

Furthermore, the famous German psychiatrist Viktor Frankl has said- “ When we are no longer able to change a situation – we are challenged to change ourselves. ” We are the key to the new world, even though, the beliefs of people nowadays are far cry from the personal change in favour of the common good. An example of this behaviour are the people who we see littering around the parks and streets every day. Maybe they think that if they do not do it, somebody else will, but that is not the right way! If everybody stops and realizes what he is doing to the environment, our planet would turn into the place of our dreams.

In addition, taking responsibility for your actions is important in becoming a change in the world. In order to make a change, you need to have the will to do it. Doing good is not because you have free time and nothing else to do! To do good things is not obligatory, but being aware that it could make your future better, why not? To be good does not mean you have to treat people bad, not listen what they have to say and not understand them. Donating has nothing to do with getting rid of some toys and clothes from your childhood, for instance, because you do not need them any longer. Donating is because you want to see the appreciation and smiles on people’s faces. You could only give a homeless person a meal, but for him it would be the meal after several night of hunger. You have no idea how much happiness you will bring to that person by this little gesture.

Tolerance is the quality, which makes us people. A tolerant person has a good soul with which understands and respects the differences in others. On the other hand, the intolerant person accepts only his or her own opinion and is not open to new ideas and views. A tolerant man is a humanist with a big heart, trustful and patient. But a person can always change only with the goodwill to do it – ” You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. ” (Gandhi)

Maria Robinson has said “ Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending. ” Whether you have been wrong and not have treated people and nature properly, you always have the opportunity to change that. When we make a mistake, we always have the chance to start over again and do the right thing. Good is in all of us. It begins with the small things, which are getting bigger and bigger- all in favour of you, your friends, family, nature, in other words, the world. If you recycle, for instance, and other people see that, some of them may follow your example. In this way, they could tell other about it and more and more people will probably get involved in the recycling of our everyday trash. Said in other words, if you start small, you will end big.

But only with talking, nothing would be really done. While some of us have a family, food in the fridge, clothes in the wardrobe and everything we need to have a normal lifestyle, people from some other parts of the world are suffering from disasters such as tsunami, earthquake, famine and water shortage. The worst of it all is that we – the population – are responsible for some of these disasters, because we do not treat the planet properly. Furthermore, we should take the problem into our own hands and be the one to change the situation. People having the capability to help should really do it. We are all people and should support each other!

No one, except of ourselves, can be the change in the world. We are the one who live on the planet and we cannot bury our head in the sand. We should take the upper hand and act like we should have been years ago. As Karen Lamb has said “ A year from now you will wish you had started today. ” Just take a step at the right time. Every small change will build up something huge with which you will not only be proud of, but you will feel valuable when you see the happy faces of the people around you!

About Myself

My name is Nikoleta Petrova and my hometown is Burgas, where I still live and study. In fact, I am 11th grade in the English language school „Geo Milev“. Next year I am graduating so I have to choose what and where to study, but I think I have already decided. Since I love travelling and having contact with a lot of people, I am planning to study Architecture in London, UK, because it has been my dream to go to university there since I was 9. Another thing about me is that I love Bulgarian traditional dances and have been dancing for about 8 years (but I stopped 2 years ago and still not sure why  -_-).
